Uzbekistan fruit and vegetable exports decreased by almost 40% in the first half of 2020

The share of fruits and vegetables in total exports from Uzbekistan amounted to 6.6%

Despite constant news about new agreements reached with various countries on increasing and diversifying exports of fruits and vegetables and success in foreign markets, the export of fruits from Uzbekistan in 2020 decreased significantly.

According to the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in January-June 2020, the volume of exports of fruits and vegetables amounted to 720.4 thousand tons, and in value terms, only $ 416.6 million. Compared to the same period in 2019, a decrease of 3.9% and 39 , 8% respectively. The decline, to a greater extent, in the value of exports indicates low prices for fruit and vegetable products in the markets of importing countries.

Of these, 523.9 thousand tons of vegetables were exported for $ 204.3 million, as well as 157.2 thousand tons of fruits and berries for $ 169.8 million, in value terms, compared to the same period in 2019 -34. 3% and -28.3%, respectively.

The share of fruits and vegetables in total exports amounted to 6.6%.

The largest volume in value terms of export of fruit and vegetable products falls on Kazakhstan (31.3% of the total volume of fruit and vegetable products), the Russian Federation (25.6%), Kyrgyzstan (17.1%).

The export of fruit and vegetable products to such countries as: Kazakhstan – by 14.2%, Azerbaijan – by 32.4%, China – by 36.3%, Pakistan – by 56.4%, Kyrgyzstan – by 67.9%, Ukraine – by 72.0%, Turkey – by 91.2%.

At the same time, there was a significant increase in exports of fruit and vegetable products to countries such as Russia – by 38.9% and Tajikistan – by 27.9%.
