The leaders in the production of vegetables in Uzbekistan are Andijan, Samarkand and Ferghana regions

EastFruit analysts note that Uzbekistan, according to official figures, continues to increase the production of fruits and vegetables, becoming an increasingly important player in the global market for fruits and vegetables.

The fastest pace in 2019, according to the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics, increased production of melons (primarily Uzbek melons and watermelons). Over the year, it immediately grew by 4.6% to 1,922.2 thousand tons.

Uzbek farmers dug potatoes 2,950.9 thousand tons, or 101.3% more than a year earlier. At the same time, the availability of potatoes in Uzbekistan continues to be insufficient due to the lack of the necessary conditions for the cultivation and preservation of seed material of potatoes in the country. Therefore, Uzbekistan is one of the 15 largest world importers of commodity potatoes, purchasing, mainly in Kazakhstan and Pakistan, more than 200 thousand tons of products annually. Uzbekistan also imports about 35 thousand tons of seed potatoes every year from the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Russia, France and Germany.

As a major exporter of vegetables, Uzbekistan in 2019 increased their production by 1.9% to almost 10 million tons. At the same time, Uzbekistan exports up to half a million tons of fresh, frozen and dried vegetables per year, and the main export positions are onions, carrots and early (young) cabbage.

In 2019, the number of fruits and berries in Uzbekistan was collected – 2 739.6 thousand tons – 1.2% more than a year earlier, according to official data, however, the production of some fruits clearly decreased. In particular, apple production in Uzbekistan was one of the lowest in a long time. At the same time, stem grape production remained virtually unchanged – although official statistics here also found 0.3% of the production growth up to 1,595.2 thousand tons.

In general, the volume of agricultural production in January – December 2019 amounted to 215.7 trillion. soums ($ 24.4 billion), or 102.7% of the corresponding period in 2018, including crop production reached 108.3 trillion. sum (103.7%), livestock – 107.4 trillion. sum (101.7%).

The leaders in the production of vegetables are Andijan, Samarkand and Ferghana regions. They produced 16.0%,! 5.8% and 11.0%, respectively, of the total volume of vegetable production in the republic.

Samarkand, Andijan and Tashkent regions are leaders in potato production (20.3%, 12.4%, 10.8%, respectively).

Surkhandarya, Jizzakh and Syrdarya regions are leaders in the production of melons (14.6%, 12.7%, 9.5%, respectively).

In 2019, the leaders in the production of fruits and berries were Andijan, Samarkand and Ferghana regions (23.1%, 12.2%, 12.2%, respectively).

The largest volume of grapes was produced in Samarkand, Bukhara and Ferghana regions (35.4%, 12.7%, 10.4%, respectively).
