Ukraine in 2018 increased the export of fruits and berries by almost 70%


In January-March 2018, Ukrainian farmers increased the export of fruits and berries by 68% compared to the same period last year – up to $ 57 million. This was reported by the press service of the association “Ukrsadprom”

“The main products in the product structure of domestic supplies abroad this year were walnuts ($ 42 million), frozen berries ($ 10 million), as well as apples and pears ($ 5 million),” the press service said.

The volume of walnuts exported from Ukraine in the first quarter of this year increased from 7 to 13 thousand tons, and apples and pears – from 6 to 14 thousand tons. According to the press service, domestic horticulture products are still in greatest demand in the countries of the European Union, providing about 60% of the income of Ukrainian exporters.

The main purchases of fruits and berries from Ukraine in January-March this year were made by France (in the amount of $ 6.9 million), Turkey ($ 6.5 million), Poland ($ 4 million), Belarus ($ 3.7 million), Greece ($ 3.5 million), Germany ($ 2.8 million) and the Netherlands ($ 2.7 million).

“At the same time, the import of fruit and berry products to Ukraine in January-March 2018 amounted to $ 143 million, but it is mainly formed by exotic fruits (citrus fruits, bananas, etc.). If we take into account only fruits and berries traditional for Ukraine, the total foreign trade surplus for us is $ 40 million. We note this year’s surplus in the trade in pome fruits, which has been negative in recent years, ”the press service said.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, in January-February this year, the export of Ukrainian products to the EU increased by 28.1%, or by 224.7 million dollars, and reached 1.025 billion dollars. Thus, at the moment, the EU accounts for 36.5% of our agricultural exports.
