Ukraine: Greenhouse plants ship tomatoes at 2 times more expensive than last year

07/30/2020

To date, growers offer greenhouse tomatoes at a price of $ 0.94-1.08 / kg, which is on average 30% more expensive than at the end of the last working week.

Prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine began to rise, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. The main reason for the upward price dynamics in this segment was the reduction in the supply of tomatoes on the market. Since not all greenhouse plants have started sampling a new turnover of this product.

Today, producers offer greenhouse tomatoes at a price of 26-30 UAH / kg ($ 0.94-1.08 / kg), which is on average 30% more expensive than at the end of the last working week.

The representative of greenhouse complexes managed to increase prices for tomato so significantly in conditions of a shortage of this product. According to producers, the supply of greenhouse tomatoes has dropped sharply this week. Thus, the volume of tomato supplies to the Ukrainian market is now extremely limited, while the demand of local wholesale companies and retail chains is quite high, which allows producers to raise prices for their products.

It should be noted that today the prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine are on average 2 times higher than in the same period last year. Industry experts associate such a high price this year, first of all, with the fact that at the moment the supply on the tomato market is almost entirely local. It should be reminded that a year ago, a significant pressure on prices was exerted by the influx of large volumes of cheaper imported tomatoes.
