Turkey traditionally continued to hold the lead among suppliers of vegetables to Ukraine, accounting for about 41% of all imports

EastFruit analysts draw the attention of participants in the fruit and vegetable market to the negative dynamics of imports of vegetables and potatoes, noted in Ukraine recently. In 2019, the total import of vegetables to Ukraine for the first time exceeded the mark of $ 200 million and reached $ 212 million, which is exactly two times more than the total import of vegetables in 2018 and 21% more than the previous record recorded in 2013.

The main import positions of vegetables for Ukraine in 2019 were greenhouse tomatoes, onions and bell peppers. Tomatoes accounted for more than a third of the total value of imports, onions – 11% and peppers – 10%. Also, large import positions were cucumber, potatoes, dried vegetables, cabbage, garlic, etc.

The main increase in imports was observed for onions – 4.3 times, for marketable potatoes – 2.3 times and for potato seeds – 2.8 times. At the same time, imports of fresh tomatoes to Ukraine decreased by more than a quarter, import of pepper by 19%, import of cucumber by 18%, and import of garlic by 39%. True, here we are talking about the dynamics of imports in value rather than absolute terms.
