Tomatoes were mostly cheaper, while cucumbers rose in price sporadically – market overview for the 10th week of 2020.

Greenhouse vegetables in EastFruit predominantly cheaper

By the end of the outgoing week, downward price trends dominated in the market of greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers. At the same time, as experts of the EastFruit project stated, this fact was characteristic of almost all the countries analyzed and for most of the main positions of greenhouse vegetables.

And if in the segment of greenhouse tomatoes the project specialists did not notice a price increase in any of the analyzed countries, then in the segments of tuberous and smooth cucumbers this week fixed multidirectional price trends.

Tomatoes prices as of 03/06/2020

For the last seven days, the project experts did not notice any drastic changes in the price situation on the round red greenhouse tomato market in the analyzed countries. And if the previously established prices have undergone changes, it is exclusively downward.

According to market operators, during the reporting period, the supply of red round greenhouse tomatoes in the markets of all the countries analyzed was noted as sufficient, and the fact that the previously established prices for tomatoes were reduced in most cases was explained by a decrease in the quality of available batches of products.

As in the previous week, the bulk of the supply of greenhouse tomatoes in the markets of most of the analyzed countries continued to be imported products.

Long cocumbers prices as of 03/06/2020

Analysts of the project recorded more dramatic price changes over the past week in the segment of long smooth greenhouse cucumber. And unlike greenhouse tomatoes, the market for smooth cucumbers was characterized by the presence of multidirectional price trends.

In the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan, long smooth cucumbers became cheaper during the entire reporting period under the pressure of increasing product offerings on the market. And at the same time, in Tajikistan, and also, less significantly, in Poland, interruptions in the supply of new consignments of cucumbers to the market led to an increase in previously established prices.

So, by the end of the reporting period, long smooth cucumbers at the highest prices, as a week earlier, were offered on the Georgian market, on average, at $ 2.16 / kg. The cheapest cucumbers in the region by the end of the outgoing week were offered in Uzbekistan, where the average prices did not exceed the figures of $ 1.26 / kg.

Short cocumber prices as of 03/06/2020

In the segment of short tuberous cucumbers, the outgoing week was dominated by downward price trends, and the maximum decrease in previously established prices was recorded on the Russian market. Market participants attributed this circumstance to a significant increase in the supply of products on the market amid stable demand.

At the same time, in Ukraine, EastFruit analysts recorded the opposite situation. Market operators noted a gradual reduction in the volume of new batches of imported products, and the quality of those cucumbers that were offered by importers left much to be desired.

The supply of domestic cucumbers from local greenhouses could not fully satisfy the existing demand, and, as a result, sellers continued to raise selling prices for existing consignments. Thus, it was on the Ukrainian market, by the end of the reporting period, a new price record was set in the region, where short tuberous cucumbers, on average, were already offered at $ 2.61 / kg.
