Tomato prices in Russia have already dropped below last year’s level

Since the beginning of this week, the price of ground tomato has dropped by an average of 32%

Tomato prices in Russia have dropped sharply this week, according to EastFruit project analysts. The reason for the decline in prices was the massive harvesting of ground tomatoes in the south of the country. At the same time, the demand for products remains quite stable, but the supply of these products is growing very quickly, and therefore prices continue to fall steadily.

Since the beginning of this week, the price of ground tomato has dropped by an average of 32%, and today farms are ready to ship these products at a price of 22-32 rubles / kg ($ 0.31-0.45 / kg). Market players attribute such a noticeable reduction in price to a rather sharp increase in the supply of tomatoes from open ground. At the same time, they note that the growth in the supply of open ground products has a negative impact on prices for greenhouse tomatoes. In particular, today Russian factories manage to conclude deals at a price of 40-90 rubles / kg ($ 0.57-1.27 / kg), which is on average 29% cheaper than a week earlier.

We add that today the price of ground tomato is already 35% lower on average than in the same period last year. Local factories offer greenhouse products on average 20% cheaper than a year ago. At the same time, industry experts do not exclude that the downward trend in tomato prices on the Russian market will continue, since many farms have just begun mass harvesting of these products from open ground.
