Thus, berries will be produced on an area of 14.8 thousand hectares, according to FruitNews based on materials from agraria.pe.

The expansion of blueberry plantations in Peru was so significant that over the past decade, the country has become a leader in the supply of berries to the world market. According to statistics from the Peru Blueberry Producers Association (ProArandanos), in the 2015/16 season, blueberries were produced on an area of 2.4 thousand ha. By the 2019/20 season, this area has grown to 10.9 thousand ha. Most significantly, the industrial sector expanded in the northern regions of Chavimoche (Libertad), Olmos (Lambayek) and Piura.

According to forecasts, by the end of 2020, another 1.4 thousand ha of blueberries will be planted in Olmos. In Piura, plantations will be broken both in open ground and in pots on an area of 300-400 ha.

“We must verify that expansion is really an increase in area, not a replacement for varieties. You can misinterpret the situation, based only on data from imports or producers of blueberries. Perhaps someone will simply replace 1,000 ha of one variety with another, ”said Miguel Bentin, Director of ProArandanos.
