According to EastFruit project analysts, onions in the Russian market are in high demand from wholesale companies and retail chains, which allows Russian farmers to further increase the price of these products.

So, today the main sales of onions are at a price of 20-30 rubles / kg ($ 0.25-0.38 / kg), while last week manufacturers shipped these products on average 20% cheaper. According to analysts, Russian producers were able to raise prices for onions due to strong demand amid falling supply. Also, the complete suspension of onion export from Kazakhstan, due to the epidemiological situation in the country, played an important role in raising prices in this segment.

However, most buyers often complain about the quality of local onions, which continues to rapidly deteriorate due to long-term storage. Nevertheless, there is no alternative to these products in Russia yet. Onion stocks in most domestic farms are depleted, while supplies from Kazakhstan, as well as other countries, are practically not carried out.

It should be noted that today selling prices for onions in the Russian Federation are already on average 9% higher than in the same period last year. At the same time, key market players have little doubt about the further increase in onion prices. Manufacturers explain their assumptions by the seasonal depletion of onion stocks in households, as well as the stably high demand in this segment.
