Russian farms began to raise prices for white cabbage

04/08/2020

To date, sales of white cabbage are carried out in the range of 12-19 rubles / kg ($ 0.16-0.25 / kg), which is on average 15% more expensive than at the end of the last working week

According to EastFruit project experts, since the beginning of this week, Russian farmers have begun to gradually increase prices for white cabbage.

Given the rapid decline in cabbage stocks on farms, Russian producers began to restrain sales of quality products, which led to higher prices for last year’s cabbage this week. This information is also confirmed by wholesale companies, which note a general reduction in the supply of cabbage in the market. A major role in this was also played by a decrease in the supply of products from Dagestan.

As a result, today sales of white cabbage are carried out in the range of 12-19 rubles / kg ($ 0.16-0.25 / kg), which is on average 15% more expensive than at the end of the last working week.

It is also worth noting that the price increase this week was recorded in the farms of Dagestan. Today, farmers of the republic offer these products at a price of 8-9 rubles / kg ($ 0.11-0.12 / kg), while last week the main sales were carried out at 5-6 rubles / kg ($ 0.07-0.08 / kg). At the same time, the reserves of cabbage in the farms of Dagestan are also rapidly declining.

However, we add that even after an intensive rise in price today, cabbage in the Russian Federation is on average 1.6 times cheaper than in early April 2019. At the same time, many market players do not exclude that in the current season the price of these products on the Russian market is unlikely to reach last year’s level. For comparison: in the same period last year, prices for cabbage were announced in the range of 40-55 rubles / kg ($ 0.53-0.73 / kg).
