Russia: potato crop rose 5.5% in 2019

At the end of 2019, the potato yield in Russia increased to 255.6 kg / ha against 234.8 kg / ha in 2018

According to the monitoring of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the gross harvest of potatoes in 2019 in agricultural organizations, peasant (farm) enterprises, including individual entrepreneurs, amounted to 7.5 million tons, which is 5.5% more than in 2018 (7.1 million tons) and 9.5% higher than the average annual level of the last five years (6.9 million tons). The crop productivity in these categories of farms increased to 255.6 c / ha against 234.8 c / ha in 2018.

The traditional leaders in the cultivation of tubers are Bryansk, Tula, Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow and Astrakhan regions. These regions account for more than a third of total production.

According to a preliminary estimate of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, self-sufficiency of potatoes in 2019 will be 95%.

In the framework of the Federal scientific and technical program for the development of agriculture for 2017-2025, the subprogram “Development of selection and seed production of potatoes in the Russian Federation” was approved. In 2019, 5 new Russian technologies were developed for the selection and seed production of potatoes, 9 competitive potato varieties were created, and a new biological root crop protection product was developed.
