Russia: demand for beetroot continues to decline

03/05/2020

To date, the price of table beets in the Russian market is already on average 11% lower than in the first half of March 2019

According to analysts of the APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits project, the current week on the Russian market was characterized by a decrease in the prices for beets, which was caused by the beginning of active sales of stocks of this root crop from households.

According to the project, the slowdown in sales has already negatively affected prices – only since the beginning of this week beets in Russia have fallen in price by an average of 6%. So, today the main transactions are concluded at a price of 8-14 rubles / kg ($ 0.12-0.21 / kg), depending on the quality and volume of the delivered party.

Market operators associate a downward price trend with an increase in the supply of beetroot in the market, since those farms that previously refrained from selling are now actively selling the available volumes. At the same time, the supply of substandard root crops remains quite large, which also puts pressure on prices for quality products.

Note that today the price of table beets in the Russian market is already on average 11% lower than in the first half of March 2019. At the same time, farmers do not yet expect an improvement in the situation, since beet supply is excessive today, and so far it has not been possible to relieve the market due to the low sales pace.
