Poland reduced apple imports this year


In the first three quarters of 2019, the volume of apple imports to Poland amounted to only 5.1 thousand tons

The volume of apple imports (category CN 080810 – Fresh apples) to Poland in the first three quarters of 2019 amounted to only 5.1 thousand tons, this was reported by EastFruit project analysts with reference to GUS data for the third quarter of 2019. In total, these fruits were imported to Poland in the amount of 20.6 million zlotys, which is a very low indicator of imports, even taking into account the fact that Poland is a large producer of apples and their net exporter.

In the first three quarters of 2018, 7.6 thousand tons of apples worth 32.3 million zlotys were imported to Poland. This means a decrease in imports compared to last year by 2.5 thousand tons, that is, an average of 32% in volume and 11.7 million zlotys, that is, an average of 36% in value terms.

As for the geographical structure of apple imports, it should be noted the changes in the top three largest suppliers of these products to the Polish market. Italy traditionally remained in first place, despite the decline in apple imports from 2.9 to 1.8 thousand tons. Lithuania, on the contrary, dropped from the second to the fourth place, having reduced the supply of apples from 1.6 to only 0.3 thousand tons. Germany moved from third to second, thanks to an increase in apple imports from 0.7 to 1.4 thousand tons. Serbia took the third place, imports from this country increased from 36 tons to 0.8 thousand tons.
