On the greenhouse tomato market in Poland, a downward trend in prices has reappeared

The demand for tomato on the Polish domestic market is now rather restrained, which also puts significant pressure on prices.

Prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Poland continue to decline rapidly, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. Market operators associate the negative price trend in this segment with the seasonal increase in supply, primarily of outdoor products. At the same time, the demand for tomato on the Polish domestic market is now rather restrained, which also puts significant pressure on prices.

So, at the moment, Polish greenhouse plants ship tomatoes at a price of $ 0.40-0.48 / kg, which is on average 22% cheaper than a week earlier. Producers are forced to cut prices in the context of seasonal growth in the supply of these products. Moreover, today they have to sell the entire volume of tomatoes mainly on the domestic market, since the demand from exporters remains rather restrained.

Note that today the cost of greenhouse tomato on the Polish market is already 41% lower on average than in the same period last year. At the same time, market players do not exclude that prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Poland will continue to decline, since the sales rates in the domestic market, even after the reduction in price, remain low, and therefore significant volumes of unsold products accumulate in the warehouses of the plants.
