New enterprise for processing hazelnuts started working in Kakheti (Georgia)

The enterprise for the delivery, processing and storage of hazelnuts will serve local farmers and allow producers to obtain high-quality products

In the village of Eniseli, Kvareli region (Kakheti region), a new enterprise for processing and storing hazelnuts was opened. Novosti-Georgia writes about this with reference to the press service of the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture.

The plant plans to purchase nuts from about 300 local farms. In a year, they will be able to dry up to 1 thousand tons of hazelnuts, and store half a ton until they are sold. The production has already employed 16 residents of Eniseli.

The enterprise is owned by Agri Management Group of Georgia. Under the state program “Unified Agricultural Project”, the state invested about 1 million lari ($ 326.7 thousand) in the project. Of these, 370 thousand is a grant ($ 120 thousand), and more than 300 thousand lari ($ 98 thousand) is a preferential agricultural loan.

“The enterprise for the delivery, processing and storage of hazelnuts will serve local farmers and will allow producers to obtain high quality products. This year is especially important, as we expect a harvest of hazelnuts of about 50 thousand tons, ”said the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Georgia at the opening of the plant.

The Eniseli plant was established with the support of the State Rural Development Agency, as well as the Georgia Hazelnut Sector Development Project, a joint program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and AgriGeorgia, owned by the Italian giant Ferrero.
