Moldovan gardeners do not count on high starting prices for export cherries

Due to spring frosts, even in the intense cherry orchards in Moldova, productivity will drop sharply

According to members of the Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Moldova Fruct, at the end of the first week of June regular export of sweet cherries will begin from the country and a “working” range of wholesale prices for this product will be formed. At the same time, as the chairman of the organization Vitaly Gorinchoy believes, the prices for export cherries at the start of the current marketing season are unlikely to be comparable or higher than in the same period last year.

At the beginning of June, some exporting gardeners consider $ 1.5-2.0 / kg to be the most likely price level for Moldavian cherries delivered to the Russian Federation. According to them, by mid-June, the supply of sweet cherries from the countries of Central Asia, Turkey and, possibly, the Balkans will increase in the Russian market, as a result of which the current, rather high, price level for these products will decrease.

In addition, according to the leaders of large enterprises, due to spring frosts, even in the intense cherry orchards in Moldova, crop yields will drop sharply. If last year it averaged 19-21 t / ha, then this year it is likely to be no more than 10 t / ha.

Product quality, at least at the beginning of summer, will also be relatively low. It finally rained in the country at the end of May, but this is not the best scenario for stone fruits of early varieties on the eve and during the harvest season. In Moldova, only a few cherry orchards are equipped with anti-rain protection systems.
