At the moment, the main sales of onions are carried out at a price of 2-4 UAH / kg ($ 0.07-0.14 / kg), which is on average 20% cheaper than at the end of the last working week

To date, Ukrainian farmers are already selling onions almost 2 times cheaper than in the same period last year, analysts of the EastFruit project report. At the same time, prices in this segment continue to fall, as the number of producers who have started harvesting spring onions continues to grow every day.

Against the background of the current situation, farmers were forced to reduce the price of onion. So, at the moment, the main sales of onions are carried out at a price of 2-4 UAH / kg ($ 0.07-0.14 / kg), which is on average 20% cheaper than at the end of the last working week.

Key market players associate the downward price trend in this segment with a general increase in the supply of spring onions on the market. Now harvesting work is being carried out quite actively over a large territory of the country. In addition, to date, farmers are forced to sell onions only on the domestic market, while export supplies are practically not carried out at the moment.

It is worth noting that at the end of July 2019, Ukrainian farmers offered onions for sale on average 2.2 times more expensive than today. At the same time, market players do not exclude further cheapening of onions, since the supply of this product continues to grow, while demand remains at a fairly low level.
