The supply of domestic strawberries in the Ukrainian market continues to grow, but demand is kept at an extremely low level

According to the daily monitoring of the EastFruit project, the supply of domestic strawberries in the Ukrainian market continues to grow, but demand is kept at an extremely low level. The main reason for the decline in demand in the segment of local strawberries is its quality characteristics.

So, today Ukrainian producers offer strawberries for sale at a price of 40-55 UAH / kg ($ 1.50-2.06 / kg), which is on average 29% cheaper than a week earlier.

Producers are forced to lower prices in this segment due to the rapid increase in supply of strawberries in local farms, while the demand for these products remains rather restrained. At the same time, most market operators report a rather large percentage of substandard berries in the current season. Heavy rainfall significantly reduced the quality characteristics of domestic strawberry garden.

However, to date, the supply of strawberries in the Ukrainian market is still small. According to key market players, in the current season the harvest of local strawberry will be much lower than last year, due to adverse weather conditions. Note that in early June last year, the supply of strawberries in the market was much greater than today. As a result, under the pressure of intense competition, Ukrainian gardeners were forced to sell this berry on average 40% cheaper than today.
