In Ukraine, all the greenhouse vegetables went up in price, and tomatoes were also in Russia. Market overview for the 28th week of 2020.

Off-season led to a sharp reduction in the supply of greenhouse vegetables in the market

Unfavorable weather conditions this spring continue to have a significant impact on the development of the situation on the greenhouse vegetables market. At the same time, in individual countries of the EastFruit project monitoring region, specialists note a non-standard change of crop rotation on farms, which cannot ensure the stability of the supply of new batches of traditional greenhouse vegetables to the market. As a result, even from the beginning of this week, from various countries of the project’s work, there have even been reports of a shortage of supply for individual, and in some regions, for all analyzed types of greenhouse vegetables.

First of all, project analysts noted Ukraine, where due to a fairly cold spring, crop rotation of greenhouse vegetables in a number of combines lasted until the middle of this summer, and new products in large quantities will be delivered to the market only this fall. Volumes of recent batches round red greenhouse tomato could not cover the existing demand in the Ukrainian market, and the season of open ground production this year is expected to be 1.5-2 weeks later than usual. The main foreign suppliers, such as Turkey and Poland, have already paid attention to the shortage of tomatoes in Ukraine, and the first summer consignments of imported tomato have already entered the Ukrainian market.

As a result, upward price trends in the greenhouse tomato segment in Ukraine have strengthened, and by the end of the reporting period, average prices for these products rose to $ 0.93 / kg there. But a sharper insufficient supply of round red greenhouse tomatoes during the reporting period was noted in the Russian market, where already the highest prices in the entire monitoring region set a new record for this summer, at $ 1.20 / kg.

But not all countries in the monitoring region noted similar problems with crop rotation in the tomato segment. And while a slight increase in the supply of these products on the Moldovan market led to a minimal reduction in the price of tomatoes, in Tajikistan over the last week the supply increased more significantly, and to intensify trade, sellers had to halve the previously established prices for greenhouse tomatoes.

If you consider the market long smooth greenhouse cucumber in general, during the reporting week in most countries of the EastFruit project monitoring region, these products became cheaper. Moreover, as analysts of the project noted, an increase in the supply of smooth cucumbers was noted both in the eastern and western parts of the analyzed region. And the leaders in the rate of decline in prices for this type of cucumber this week were the Russian Federation and Tajikistan.

It was in Tajikistan that the price tags for smooth cucumbers dropped to the lowest value in the region, on average, to $ 0.16 / kg. At the same time, in Russia this type of cucumber was no longer on sale at the highest prices among all the countries analyzed.

The exception to this week in this segment of the market, experts called Poland, where an insufficient number of long smooth cucumbers in the market, led to the establishment of the highest prices for these products in the entire region, namely $ 0.76 / kg.

Sentence short cucumber throughout the reporting period, it gradually increased, which led to the strengthening of negative price trends in most countries of the monitoring region. The maximum decrease in the previously established price tags, more than 2 times, this week was recorded in Belarus, where the average prices for tuberous cucumbers were already announced no higher than $ 0.37 / kg, although a week earlier they were among the highest in all region. The situation in the market of short cucumbers in both Moldova and the Russian Federation developed in a similar way, but, as experts noted, sellers were only able to slightly review the previously set prices in the direction of reduction in order to return to the previous sales pace of existing production lots.

This week Ukraine was an exception, where local operators noted an insufficient supply of tuberous cucumbers, and with existing demand, sellers did not stop raising selling prices for these products until the end of the reporting period.

EastFruit analysts noted the stabilization of prices in this segment of the market only in Georgia, where last week the prices for cucumbers dropped to the lowest level in the entire monitoring region, and their further decline would be economically unjustified.
