Tomatoes remained the key direction of supplies on the market, which accounted for more than a quarter of supplies in physical terms.

Covid-19 had virtually no impact on Russian vegetable imports. In the first 6 months of 2020, the volume of purchases decreased compared to deliveries in the same period last year from 1.43 million tons to 1.39 million tons, that is, by 2.5%. “Tomatoes remained the key direction of supplies on the market, accounting for more than a quarter of supplies in physical terms. There was no noticeable rise in the cost of imported products: the volume of imports in money for the period amounted to $ 1.12 billion, having decreased at the level of deliveries in kind (-2.0%), ”the ARG agency noted in the study.

It is clarified that the supply of tomatoes in the first half of 2020 took 26.5% of the total vegetable import or 368.7 thousand tons. At the end of 2019, the share of tomatoes in supplies was slightly higher (28.2% in physical terms), and in value terms, they had an even more significant share (38.9%).

Potato imports in January – June 2020 accounted for over 20% of the volume of vegetable supplies. In addition, the top main categories included onions and garlic (16.4% of shipments in the first 6 months of 2020), as well as other vegetables, among which the largest volume fell on peppers, pumpkin and zucchini.
