According to the operational data of the regional governing bodies of the agro-industrial complex of Russia, as of September 15, 2020, about 3 million tons of vegetables were harvested in the country as a whole. Of these, 965.4 thousand tons were grown in winter greenhouses, which is 19% higher than the indicator for the same period in 2019 (812.1 thousand tons). The harvest of greenhouse cucumbers was 597.03 thousand tons (+ 17.5%), tomatoes – 351.6 thousand tons (+ 20.4%). Taking into account the spring greenhouses, 991.6 thousand tons of vegetables were harvested in the protected ground for the specified period, the RF Ministry of Agriculture reports.

The top ten regions-leaders in production in winter greenhouses include the Lipetsk region – 97 thousand tons, Krasnodar region – 91 thousand tons, Moscow region – 74.6 thousand tons, Stavropol Territory – 56 thousand tons, Volgograd region – 51 thousand tons. tons, Republic of Bashkortostan – 48.3 thousand tons, Kaluga region – 41.9 thousand tons, Karachay-Cherkess Republic – 35.7 thousand tons, Novosibirsk region – 31.2 thousand tons and the Republic of Tatarstan – 29, 03 thousand tons.

In the open field, as of the reporting date, 2 million tons of vegetables were harvested. The main share falls on tomatoes (23.4%), onions (23.3%), cabbage (13.7%) and carrots (8.3%).

State support measures contribute to the development of the industry. Within the framework of the incentive subsidy, the constituent entities of the Russian Federation have the right to choose priority areas, including open field vegetable growing, which allows the regions to provide additional support to farmers involved in the production of vegetables. In addition, there are mechanisms for grant support to farmers and cooperatives, concessional lending is carried out, and a set of other measures is being implemented.
