Perennial plantations on the territory of Moldova suffered from frost damage extremely unevenly – depending on the location in a particular region, fruit species and their varieties

Specialists of large horticultural agricultural enterprises of the Republic of Moldova drew attention to the extremely atypical reaction of fruit crops to abnormally warm and dry winters and the first half of the spring of this year. Earlier, EastFruit gardeners-newsmakers reported that perennial plantations in Moldova suffered extremely unevenly from frost – depending on the location in a particular region, fruit species and their varieties. In addition, in recent weeks, farmers have noticed that the flowering intensity of nearby plantations of the same varieties varies greatly depending on which year these plantations were planted (even if planting material of the same manufacturing company was used).

To the greatest extent, this phenomenon is observed in the apple orchards of the Granny Smith, Red Chief varieties, the Golden group and, to a lesser extent, the Gala (in the latter case, the experts see the difference in the presence of a large number of clones). Given the great differentiation in the flowering process, experts suggest that crop forecasts will be repeatedly adjusted both in individual orchards and in the apple fruit growing segment of the Republic of Moldova as a whole.

In addition, according to gardeners, the differences in the applied agricultural technologies and weather anomalies are likely to complicate the formation of batches of products of homogeneous quality.
