In Kyrgyzstan in 2020 there will be no problems with the sale of potatoes

This year, the area under cultivation of potatoes was reduced to 71 thousand hectares

In 2018 and early 2019, there was a big problem with potatoes in Kyrgyzstan. It was he who was advised to plant the Ministry of Agriculture and the government in order to sell to neighboring Uzbekistan. However, no buyers were found, and part of the potatoes rotted.

This year, emphasis will be placed on beans, soybeans, corn and several other crops. Sales problems, including potatoes, are not expected, told Sputnik Kyrgyzstan Minister of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation Erkin Choduyev.

“They asked me: will the Ministry of Agriculture give a forecast, what crops to sow? We focus on beans, grain, sugar beets, corn, but at the same time we say that you can sow soybeans, because it has good profitability, lentils and chickpeas It’s difficult to make forecasts, but we tell farmers that there is a sowing structure that was enshrined in a government decree, which is based on forecasts from ayil okmotu (rural government is the executive and administrative body at the village or village council) to the regional level, and I think large n oblem with the sale will not be “, – said the minister.

In particular, he said that this year the area under crops of potatoes was reduced to 71 thousand hectares.

“When there were problems with potatoes in 2018, the area was 84.3 thousand hectares, last year it was 5 thousand less, this less by 8 thousand. This year there will be no problems,” Choduyev added.

In 2018, the government and the Ministry of Agriculture assured that the Uzbek market is open to domestic farmers. Officials recommended planting potatoes, as the neighboring country is ready to buy half a million tons of tubers.

But in fact, export volumes were small. Farmers reduced the price of potatoes to 5 soms, but there were practically no buyers, including foreign ones. Many farmers have rotted potatoes because of this.
