The main share of the crop grown in classic vineyards last year – with vertical trellises, was sold at a price of 13-16 lei / kg ($ 0.77-0.95 / kg)

Calculations of the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova show that in the first quarter of 2020, compared with the data for the same period last year, the average wholesale prices for table grapes sold by agricultural enterprises and farms with an area of more than 50 hectares doubled.

Earlier, EastFruit reported that according to experts from table grape producers associations, the main share of the crop grown in classic vineyards last year with vertical trellis was sold at a price of 13-16 lei / kg ($ 0.77-0.95 / kg) . It is these vineyards that are concentrated in large agricultural enterprises, which without fail provide reporting on the number of grown products and wholesale prices for their sale to the statistics bureau.

At the same time, according to expert data, Moldovan winegrowers sold most of the products from plantations formed according to the types of Pergola / Tendone and Gable / Ypsilon, at an average price of 20-24 lei / kg ($ 1.14-1.37 / kg). However, the vineyards of these types are usually small – an average of 5-10 ha (although there are some large, intensive plantations – up to 20 ha). Small vineyards are statistically sampled. Moreover, it is often these vineyards that grow the most high-quality and expensive products.

It is also worth noting that according to statistics, in 2019 compared with the previous year, the wholesale price of grapes in the Republic of Moldova decreased by 5.3%. This is partly due to the fact that at the general price level last year, sales in January-March 2019 of low-quality table grape-2018 grapes at very low prices were negatively affected. At the end of the first quarter of last year, the average wholesale price for Moldova grapes dropped to 4-5 lei / kg ($ 0.24-0.30 / kg). Whereas in January-March 2020, prices for grapes, even of mediocre quality, were high – higher than in autumn and early winter.
