Fruit storage capacities in Kabardino-Balkaria (RF) increased by 70%

In Kabardino-Balkaria (RF), there are 33 fruit storage facilities with a total capacity of over 150 thousand tons of storage at a time. Over the past five years, storage capacity has increased by 70%. For comparison, in 2016, the republic’s fruit storage facilities were able to simultaneously accept 88.5 thousand tons of fruit products for storage.

This year, the implementation of five investment projects for the construction of fruit storage facilities with a capacity of more than 17 thousand tons of simultaneous storage continues, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

The construction of modern fruit storage facilities is one of the priorities of the agro-industrial complex.

According to the Minister of Agriculture of Kabardino-Balkaria Khasan Sizhazhev, about 1.5-2 thousand hectares of perennial plantations are laid in the republic annually, which requires the introduction of new storage capacities for fruit products.

“Gardeners are faced with the task of not only growing a rich harvest, but also preserving the beneficial properties of fruits and their original presentation as long as possible in order to provide consumers with high-quality domestic products all year round,” Khasan Sizhazhev explained.

This year, the agrarians of Kabardino-Balkaria intend to harvest over 530 thousand tons of fruit and berry products. Harvesting of apples in the orchards of the republic is now in full swing.
