A modern almond and walnut processing enterprise will build Ge E Investment Corp in Mtskheta region (Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, Eastern Georgia).

The project will be implemented with the support of the state program “Produce in Georgia”, the total investment in the enterprise will be about 1 million 540 thousand lari ($ 537 thousand at the current exchange rate). According to the National Agency of State Property of Georgia, for the construction of the enterprise within the framework of the state program Ge E Investment Corp for a symbolic price of 1 lari ($ 0.3), a land plot in the Mtskheta region with an area of ​​29,950 square meters was transferred.

Ge E Investment Corp is a subsidiary of the American investment company Ge Investment Corp, registered in Georgia in 2012. According to EastFruit, Director of Ge E Investment Corp, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Almond and Walnut Producers of Georgia Tornike Latatia, the construction of the enterprise will begin in the spring of 2020 and will be completed in 2021. In parallel with the implementation of the project, work will be carried out to introduce international standards for quality and food safety management systems. It is assumed that the company will work on local raw materials. At the first stage, the company will produce peeled almond and walnut kernels, over time it is planned to expand the range with products with higher added value.

“According to the conditions of the state program, the enterprise must process at least 150 tons of raw materials per year, but in reality our enterprise will be much more powerful. We plan to equip a storage facility designed for the simultaneous storage of 500 tons of almonds and walnuts, and as we process raw materials, we will purchase new lots. The main thing is that there should be enough raw material base, and we think that over the years it will only grow, ”said Latnikia Tornike.

According to the director of Ge E Investment Corp, modern varieties of almonds and walnuts will be used in the production. Both of these nut crops have been cultivated relatively recently in Georgia as commercial crops. To date, the area of ​​almond plantations in the country exceeds 4 thousand hectares, and the first commercial harvests are expected from 2020. Gardens of modern walnut varieties occupy more than 3 thousand hectares in Georgia, and a number of them are already bearing fruit.

In production, Ge E Investment Corp plans to use almonds from its own plantations. According to Tornike Latatija, today the company’s almond orchards, also located in the Mtskheta region, occupy a total of 240 hectares, according to the plan of Ge E Investment Corp, for 2020-2021. plantation area is planned to be increased to 700 hectares.

As for potential sales markets, according to Latatius, the company considers, as such, primarily the EU countries, in particular Germany, as well as China.
