Exports of peaches and nectarines from Georgia increased by 85%

Refrigeration and storage facilities in Georgia are operating at full capacity for uninterrupted placement and sale of the peach crop

As of August 31, 23 784 tons of peaches and nectarines were exported from Georgia, which is 10 963 tons more than in the same period last year, Novosti-Georgia reports, citing the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.

The main importing countries of Georgian peaches and nectarines are the Russian Federation (15,449 tons), Armenia (7,304 tons) and Azerbaijan (567 tons).

Exports are also carried out to Kazakhstan (112.9 tons), Ukraine (111.5 tons), Moldova (89.6 tons), Poland (92.6 tons), Slovenia (57.3 tons), Singapore (0.04 tons ) and Qatar (0.01 tons).

“The price of peaches ranges from 1.00 to 2.00 lari ($ 0.32-0.64), and nectarines – from 1.30 to 2.00 lari ($ 0.42 -0.64). Refrigeration and storage facilities are operating at full capacity to ensure uninterrupted placement and sale of crops. To facilitate the export of peaches, the necessary documentation is prepared and issued in a “one window” mode. Representatives of phytosanitary and customs services are involved in the process, ”the department notes.

A working group has been created under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, which is actively involved in collecting information, organizing it, and liaising between farmers and distributors of peaches.

During the 2019 season, more than 13.2 thousand tons of peaches and nectarines were exported from Georgia. More than 80% of the total amount fell on Russia – 10.7 thousand tons. 1,300 tons of Georgian peaches and nectarines were sent to Armenia, and 667 tons to Azerbaijan.

Other important export markets include Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Slovenia, Iraq, Iran, Belarus, Moldova and Qatar.
