Export of pomegranate from Uzbekistan increased by one and a half times, revenue decreased
From the beginning of August to the end of the second decade of September 2021, the volume of pomegranate exports from Uzbekistan increased by 51% in kind compared to the same period last year, Eastfruit analysts report. At the same time, export proceeds from pomegranate for this period decreased by 4%.
According to the Customs Committee of the republic, from August 1 to September 20, 2021, Uzbekistan exported 4.1 thousand tons of pomegranate in the amount of $ 2.97 million, while for the same period last year, the export volume of pomegranate amounted to 2.7 thousand tons in the amount of $ 3 , 10 million
It is obvious that the prices of Uzbek pomegranate when supplied to foreign markets this year are much lower – by about 30-40% than a year earlier, which led to a decrease in export earnings.

The statistics of the past years show that Uzbekistan exports from 10 to 18 thousand tons of pomegranate per year. In the past, in 2020, the export volume of pomegranate amounted to 17.4 thousand tons in the amount of $ 18.5 million. Compared to other types of fresh fruits and vegetables supplied from Uzbekistan to foreign markets, the export season of pomegranates lasts longer – starting from August of this year. until February-March of the next year, i.e. 7-8 months. Most of the exports go to Russia and other post-Soviet countries.
