Due to the cold snap in Poland, greenhouse tomatoes have risen in price

09/04/2020

The demand for tomatoes in Poland has somewhat intensified both from wholesale companies and from retail chains.

This week in Poland prices for greenhouse tomatoes have increased significantly, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. Representatives of greenhouse plants reported that the samples of these products were slightly reduced due to cloudy and cool weather. At the same time, the demand for tomatoes has somewhat intensified, both from wholesale companies and from retail chains.

So, at the moment, representatives of Polish greenhouse plants agree to ship tomato no less than $ 0.48-0.61 / kg, which is on average 23% more expensive than at the end of the last working week. As the producers themselves note, the increase in prices in this segment is caused, first of all, by increased demand against the background of a decrease in the supply of tomatoes: a decrease in average daily temperatures adversely affected the process of maturation of greenhouse products, and therefore the samples in farms have sharply decreased.

Note that despite a rather sharp rise in the price of greenhouse tomatoes, the prices for these products today in Poland are still 25% lower on average than in the same period of the previous year. However, market players do not exclude further price increases, provided that the current sales rates for these products are maintained.
