Against the background of the expected growth of exports to the Russian Federation, apples rise in price on the Moldovan market

02/01/2020

As in previous weeks in Moldova, it was apples of the social segment and unpopular varieties that rose in price

Monitoring of wholesale prices EastFruit shows that after the approval by the Federal Service of Rosselkhoznadzor of an additional list of authorized exporters of fruit from Moldova to the Russian Federation on the Moldavian market, apple prices continued to rise in the last week of January. Moreover, as in previous weeks, it was apples of the social segment and unpopular varieties that rose in price. In particular, the minimum prices for apples of the Idared and Simirenko varieties increased by another 1 lei / kg to 9 lei / kg ($ 0.54 / kg). But at the same time, the maximum prices for apples of highly liquid varieties (Fuji, Jonagold, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith) and premium quality have not actually changed – they are still in the range of 12-13 lei / kg ($ 0.72-0.78 / kg).

However, apparently, the absence of a marked increase in prices for premium segment apples does not bother Moldovan farmers too much. One of the most important results, according to the chairman of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Moldova Fruct Vitali Gorincioi, will be the fact that by the end of the marketing season “there will not be a single kilogram of apples not sold in the country”.

The processors agree with this conclusion. The leaders of individual processing enterprises note that the rejection of illiquid products in refrigerators of traders and agricultural enterprises in 2020 is much slower than in previous years. Some of them even doubt that apple concentrate production plants will be launched on apples from refrigerators in the off-season.
