Deliveries of imported cucumbers decreased markedly, which allowed representatives of Polish greenhouse plants to raise prices for their products

Hothouse plants in Poland manage to raise prices for cucumbers, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. According to market participants, the demand in the domestic cucumber segment this week has noticeably intensified. Retail chains and large wholesale companies showed particular interest in the purchase. In addition, the supply of imported cucumbers was significantly reduced, which also allowed representatives of Polish greenhouse plants to raise prices for their products.

As a result, closer to the weekend, cucumbers from local combines went on sale at around $ 2.07-2.59 / kg, which is on average 11% more expensive than at the end of last working week.

According to market experts, this week cucumber samplings in greenhouses decreased markedly. At the same time, the demand for these products remains very high: customers are increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of imported cucumbers and prefer local products.

Products that were imported from Spain went on sale at a price of $ 1.43-1.95 / kg. According to market operators, demand in this segment was restrained. Given this, they decided not to revise selling prices and were selling Spanish cucumbers at the same prices as last week.

It is worth noting that at the moment, Polish farms are already shipping greenhouse cucumbers on average 1.6 times more expensive than in the first half of March 2019. At the same time, market operators consider an upward price trend in this segment a temporary phenomenon. According to them, the prices of local cucumbers will begin to decline as soon as domestic greenhouse plants start operating at full capacity.
