Turkish citrus suppliers target record export figures

In the export season of 2019, 1.671 million tons of various types of citrus were supplied abroad for $ 835 million

Since the beginning of the year, gardeners in the Mediterranean region of Turkey have exported 666 thousand tons of citrus fruits worth $ 340 million.

This was announced by the head of the Association of Exporters of Fresh Vegetables and Fruits of the Mediterranean Region, Nejdat Sin, writes Anadolu agency.

According to him, about 77% of Turkey’s total citrus exports go to the country’s southern provinces. “From January to August, 666 thousand tons of citrus fruits were exported in the amount of $ 339.8 million,” said Sin.

Compared to the same period last year, citrus exports from southern Turkey increased by 32%.

“The main market for our products remains Russia – $ 119.4 million. The second place is taken by Ukraine – $ 33.4 million, the third Iraq – $ 32.4 million. The largest growth in citrus exports is observed to Italy (an increase of 539%) to $ 3.6 million Belarus is next (growth – 212%) to $ 4.1 million and Poland (growth by 197%) to $ 18 million, ”Sin said.

Citrus growers all over Turkey are aiming to exceed last year’s export figures this season.

The head of the Association of Citrus Producers of Turkey, Kemal Kachmaz, said that in the export season of 2019, 1.671 million tons of various types of citrus fruits for $ 835 million were exported abroad.

Citrus producers and exporters have taken all measures to prevent coronavirus infection, Kachmaz said.
