According to EastFruit analysts, this morning, July 14, 2020, wholesale prices for tomatoes in the southern regions of Ukraine fell to the lowest level for the year. The most interesting thing is that now you can buy red greenhouse tomato even cheaper than a cucumber.

In the morning, vegetable growers made deals on the sale of wholesale lots of red greenhouse tomatoes no more than 10 UAH / kg (37 US cents per kg), although when selling small-scale products in bulk, it was possible to gain up to 12 UAH / kg (44 cents) per kg of these vegetables. In this case, the cucumber could even be sold at 15 UAH / kg (55 cents), that is, one and a half times more expensive than red tomato.

Pink tomato, which usually costs more, also sold poorly and at almost the same price as red round tomato. On average, greenhouses received 1-2 UAH / kg more when selling pink tomatoes compared to selling red ones. Yellow tomatoes could be sold at 15 UAH / kg, that is, at the same price as cucumbers.

But black tomato was much more expensive. Prices for it ranged from 20 to 35 UAH / kg ($ 0.74-1.29 per kg), depending on the variety, quality and volume of the proposed batch.

Farmers hope that a sharp drop in prices stimulates the flow of wholesale buyers, which has recently declined significantly. Obviously, this is due to the promotion of the harvesting season in the central and western regions of the country, which allows wholesalers to save on transport by purchasing products closer to the sales areas.
