At least 95-97% of all apples exported from Moldova enter the Russian market

Following the participation of a delegation of Moldovan horticultural enterprises in the agri-food exhibition WorldFood Moscow, representatives of associations of producers and exporters of agricultural products circulated messages in the media, which noted that in the 2020-2021 marketing year, Moldova will be able to send about 170-200 thousand tons to the Russian market. apples, 30-35 thousand tons of plums and about 40 thousand tons of table grapes.

In fact, we are talking about a significant decrease in the projected export volume, at least – of apples, compared to the summer forecast. At the end of June, several leading organizations of Moldovan agricultural producers drew up a joint forecast for the export of apples for 2020-2021 MY – about 270 thousand tons, + 5% to the corresponding indicator for the last marketing year (257 thousand tons). At the same time, at least 95-97% of all apples exported from Moldova enter the Russian market. However, already in the summer, some experts considered the forecast for the export of Moldovan apples of the 2020 harvest to Russia too optimistic.

Obviously, the sharp fall in the projected export of apples from Moldova to Russia in autumn is associated with a decrease in the harvest of these fruits. If in the summer the apple harvest in the Republic of Moldova was forecasted in the redistribution of 525-530 thousand tons, then according to autumn forecasts, it is significantly lower than 500 thousand tons.
