Most Russian companies report a deficit in the supply of citrus fruits, in particular lemons

At the moment, most Russian companies report a deficit in the supply of citrus fruits, in particular lemons, EastFruit project analysts said.

According to representatives of wholesale companies, today they are extremely rarely able to acquire the required volumes of lemons, due to the seasonal reduction in the supply of these products in the main supplying countries. Moreover, according to representatives of wholesale companies, as a rule, during this period, most wholesalers switched to the purchase of citrus fruits in the countries of the Southern Hemisphere. In the same season, due to the global pandemic, it is very difficult to compensate for the lack of supply of these citrus fruits.

Today, on the Russian market, lemons are offered for sale at a price of 110-170 rubles / kg ($ 1.40-2.16 / kg), which is on average 22% more expensive than at the end of last working week. According to market operators, the price increase in this case was provoked by a noticeable reduction in lemon supplies from Turkey, which today is the main supplier of these fruits to the Russian market. At the same time, the sales rate of lemons markedly accelerated, which made it possible for sellers to increase the prices of these citrus fruits.

Note that in the same period last year, these fruits were bought by Russian wholesale companies on average 46% cheaper than now.
