In the past few days, agricultural markets have gradually closed in various regions of Georgia.

Since April 7, all agricultural markets of Tbilisi have closed.

According to EastFruit in the Tbilisi City Hall, the decision to temporarily close the markets was made on the basis of the recommendation of the interagency coordination council as part of comprehensive measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19.

According to preliminary data, this restriction will remain in force until the end of the state of emergency.

According to the National Food Agency of Georgia, today the agency has 18 large and small agricultural markets registered in Tbilisi.

In the past few days, agricultural markets have gradually closed in various regions of the country. So, all markets in the regions of Imereti, Kakheti and Shida Kartli are already temporarily closed, most markets in Samegrelo.

Due to the threat of the spread of coronavirus from March 21, a state of emergency has been declared throughout Georgia for a period of 1 month, and since March 31, a general quarantine has been declared for a period of emergency. This regime provides for a number of restrictions regarding the movement of the population, transport, the work of organizations, various facilities, etc. Agricultural markets, like grocery stores, were initially allowed to work normally (except for curfews), but in compliance with tightened hygiene requirements, social distance and cash handling rules. Based on the results of inspections by the relevant government agencies in the territory of a number of agricultural markets in various regions of the country, certain violations were identified.

As of April 7, 195 cases of COVID-19 coronavirus infection were registered in Georgia. Of the total number of infected individuals, 39 recovered and 2 died. In hospitals, 370 people are under observation, in quarantine mode – 4708 people.
